“Joaquim died. He died our Master and our Friend.
He died doing theater, which was what he did best: theater and made up to the end. He directed us to no longer have breath to pull the smoke of cigarettes that was unraveling, one after another, in the tests (in recent weeks, resigned to having to quit smoking, brought into the room an electronic cigarette that someone baptized as Robocop ).

Joaquim Benite was and what will be said of him now: an intellectual action, a generous artist, a persevering man, with a keen look poetic about the world and a great intolerance against injustice - that some moments in your life have tried pinching him, but he ignored as who gives a flip in the butt out the car window, as he had a bad habit of doing.

Joaquim Benite been and will be many things. For we who have lived and learned with him - for several generations of actors, technicians, directors, directors of theaters ... - Joaquim was the man who revealed the secret that theater is an addiction (who goes there, never goes out of there), but is also a balm (we who have this profession, we privileged few, because in times of immense pain, like this, we can always escape to the stage: and there is another pain).

We were with a part in hands: 'Timon of Athens', which Athens says little but speaks volumes about the hypocrisy and deceit of men. Our "boss" as Joaquim called him in the first test, had a habit of writing for us, and for "those who come after us" - and those who come after them.

And now comes "words, words, words ..." and we'll work but, maybe that was what he'd say now if I could. Let's take care of the living. Comfort his family - his sisters, their children, their grandchildren - and bring Teresa 'Courage' back to the boards.

"And since we're on Shakespeare" (as you yourself have said you could, my dear friend ...), let us quote the words that our "boss" puts into the mouth of him who, disillusioned the way that society was taking, turned away men to die alone:

"Sun, hide thy rays: Joaquim reached the end of their destiny"

Almada Theatre Company”
